Congress party senior leader Rahul Gandhi met Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Poonia at Virender Arya Akhara in Jhajjar, Haryana, amid the ongoing conflict between wrestlers and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

The meeting, which also included Commonwealth Games gold medallist Deepak Punia, focused on observing the daily routines of wrestlers. This comes at a time when Indian wrestlers are protesting against the election of Sanjay Singh as the new WFI chief, who is associated with BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment. Athletes, including Poonia and Vinesh Phogat, have decided to return their awards in protest against Singh’s election. The Union Sports Ministry has suspended WFI activities, and the Indian Olympic Association will form an ad hoc committee to oversee wrestling body administration.
